Arauco Historical Museum was founded on 02 February 1993 and was born out of four teachers from the community seeking to recover the past history of Arauco. They were, Juan Matamala Hernandez, normal school teacher, director of Polytechnic High School Carampangue, Segura Susana Alvarez, Professor of Fine Arts of the Lyceum "San Felipe de Arauco" A-50; Luis Pastén Tanker, professor of Fine Arts of San Liceo Francis of Assisi, and Luis Torres Aillón, Professor of History and Geography of the Lyceum "San Felipe de Arauco" A-50.
They, with the help of the community who contributed both in kind and financial resources were able to successful end to this noble initiative. From
1995, for work, Mr. Mata and Ms. Segura, the museum withdrew, leaving a huge vacuum at the institution. At that time the museum is located in the so-called House of Culture, as always without more funding.
The museum is run by a Cultural Corporation since 1998. In the first instance was directed by Professor of History and Geography Miss Passion Villar Cariaga and secondly by the schoolteacher, Sergio Guiñez, Cultural Corporation is currently directed by Luis Torres Aillón.
After a period of 5 years in a small local street Luis Cruz Martínez, Mr. Mayor. Mauricio Alarcon Guzman, restored the institution to the local House of Culture where it remains today, thanks to an agreement by the City Council for a loan to 30 years. The Museum
, has teachers and Luis Torres Luis Pastén which, is funded by Mrs. Eva González Navarro, who works as a secretary, Miss. Andrea Briceño as Assistant.

In its premises, the Museum carries out various activities: outreach, educational establishments, dissemination, with campaigns of cultural heritage and desktop publishing, research, local history and conservation of their pieces on display and in storage .
dicimebre 27, 2007, established the dependence of the Historical Archive, which contains a series of documents, files of newspapers, in paper and microfilm, photographs, documents, municipal records, maps of the area, among other elements,
